Android 2 3 How to Safely Factory Reset a Gingerbread Device

All devices running the Gingerbread Android OS can be factory reset (or wiped) using similar steps. This tutorial describes what a factory reset actually does and how to do it safely.
What do the factory reset actually do?
The purpose of the factory reset is to wipe the device of all personal information and return the device as closely as possible to its originally purchased state. The only difference is that during the factory reset, however, the latest stable version of the Android OS will likely be installed. For example, if you are running 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 is available for your device, you will likely be upgraded to 2.3.4 when you perform the factor reset.
During the reset all personal information is removed. Optionally your SD card can be wiped as well. All applications are also removed. Android market will remember your paid applications and can optionally reinstall these applications for you. Your free applications typically will not be remembered. Even if the applications are installed to an SD card, these applications will still need to be reinstalled.

When Should I do a Factory Reset

If you are selling or returning a device, a factory reset will prevent somebody from easily stealing your personal data from the device. A factory reset is often a “last ditch” effort to get a very glitchy phone working well again.

Preparing for the Reset

1. Connect your phone to AC through some method. Running out of power during the reset could theoretically brick your phone.

2. Be sure you know your Google username and password. Be sure that Google’s backup is enabled viaSettings -> Privacy -> Back up my data
3. Export your contacts to your SD memory card if you wish. Select Contacts and then Back up contacts. Then you can select Memory card.
4. You may want to make a list of all the applications you have on your system. You can find the list through Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications. Several free android applications will help with this process as well if you wish to try a third party option.

Wiping the Device

This process will completely wipe your device. Even if you backup everything as recommended above, you may lose some application data or settings. This is not a process that should be done lightly.
To factory reset, select Settings then Privacy and then Factory data reset.

A warning screen will next appear. From here you can select if you want the SD card in the device erased as well. Press the Erase button. You will have to confirm one last time via the Erase everything button. Your device will reboot and the reset process will be completed.

Heres the step by step guide on how to manually upgrade your Samsung Galaxy Tab Wifi Only GT-P1010 to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread build by way of using Odin multi-downloader tool and the Android 2.3.6 stock ROM P1010XXKPG with P1010XEUKPG CSC file. These procedures are way too little bit risky for beginners for it will run into a different stages in flashing and if you ever mess up, you are going to brick your device in no time which you find it enough hardly to recover.

As we know tweaking the Galaxy Tablets firmware is a little bit too risky compare to the typical Android Phones. So these procedure might will help you out to figure out on how to tweak your P1010 Wifi Tablet that only runs on 2.2.1 Froyo and if you want to dress it up into something perhaps a new look and a Gingerbread experience as well.

Disclaimer: Droidangel shall not be held responsible if something happens to your device for using these guides. Just proceed at your own risk.

Manual installation using P1010XXKPG stock ROM to upgrade Samsung Galaxy Tab Wifi Only GT-P1010 to Gingerbread.

- To make your flashing goes smoothly you firstly need to have your device installed with P1010 Clockwork MOD recovery on it.. Big thanks to Skin1980 for getting us out to worry about bricking our Galaxy P1010 Tablets again. Install that CWM to get rid of brick.
- Back up all of important files or data stored from your device. You can perform a nandroid back up after you mount the CWM on it.
- Perform wiped data and cache from recovery.
- Make sure that the battery is fully charge or at least above 50%.
- Use PC/laptop runs on Windows XP or later OS.
- Install Kies on your PC to have the needed driver for your P1010 Tabs.
- A supplied USB cable for your Tab.

Grab the needed files:
Stock ROM P1010XXKPG_P1010XEUKPG
- The Pit File P1wifi_20110128_r10_00.pit
- Odin downloader tool Odin3 v1.85.

1. Extract the downloaded P1010XXKPG stock ROM
2. Run Odin on your PC desktop.
- Tick the PIT button and select the P1wifi_20110128_r10_00.pit  file
- Then the PDA button and load the P1010XXKPG_P1010XEUKPG_HOME.tar.md5
DO NOT CHECK THE RE-PARTITION checkbox. Only the Auto-Reboot and F.Reset Time got on it.

3. Prepare your Galaxy Tab P1010 into download mode and then connect to PC.
- Turn Off your tablet or Remove the battery for a while then put it back again. Press and hold the POWER and VOLUME Down buttons while the phone is OFF.
- Then connect the device to PC when it displays a triangle with an Android robot digging with a shovel and word says "Downloading - do not turn off  Target", Odin will indicate a word added on the log screen and the ID:COM box will turn to yellow color.

4. Hit the Start button to begin flashing.
How to Update/Upgrade Samsung Galaxy Tab Wifi P1010 to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread XXKPG Firmware

DO NOT TOUCH the tablet while flashing still in progress, let the flashing completely finishes. It only takes just around 4 to 5 minutes - depends of your PC speed. A word "PASS" will display in ODIN once it
successfully completes. And then after it reboots you will then have the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread firmware upgrade on your Galaxy Tab P1010
Heres another detailed guide prepared by taney at XDA-developer.
if you are still struggling to get that Gingerbread upgrade on your P1010 WiFI Tablet.

S5660XXKS2 Android 2 3 5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 Update Firmware

The Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread firmware update for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 finally leaks online. SamMobile.com recently announced and released the said firmware update for Galaxy Gio. The firmware build number is S5660XXKS2 with CSC file S5660OXXKS2 with build date as of September 2011.
This is the first Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread firmware update for Galaxy Gio since from the previous released of S5660XXKQG which is 2.3.4. Some changes of this update are fixes and minor improvements and looks identical from 2.3.4.

firmware info S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660
Test Result and Review
Heres the initial impression of the S5660XXKS2 came out on the basis of Android 2.3. 5 after successfully flash on Galaxy Gio.

1) Visual changes - The appearance is not changed, still the same status bar, the same will, in general, with the same as in previous version.

2) Interface - Here we can already catch a few changes. Effect of the circular paging desktops (that is, you can immediately with the latest desktop on the first pass). This fichu Ive seen only on third-party launcher. For me, this feature has proved very convenient effect when paging vertical lists, Cyanogen mod. as for example in the settings or flipping up or down until it stops, then starts to glow screen in blue (as in Cyanogen mod). Heres a snapshot:
Glow effect of S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660

Comes out of sleep as well as on the last Baltic-3 (that is, if the wake-body and immediately pull the slide unlock, it will be 5.7 seconds observed brakes, but if you pull the slide at once, but after a second 3-4, then no brakes .)  The interface was visually higher (again due to personal feelings).
3) Performance - 2.3.4. IMHO productivity increased slightly compared with 2.3.4.
Here are pictures:

Navigation settings of S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660
Homescreen S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660
Quadrant score of S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660

Tested on a clean firmware

4) Media - In the media of any changes, too: the same gallery, the same music player. The only thing noticed is the fact that the video began to write better.

5) Energy consumption - While can not say anything, because  I just installed the firmware.

6) Communications - No wi-fi, no GPS, I have not tested and therefore can not say anything (but there is feedback that the GPS is working properly, and not as typical Baltic-3)

7) Sensors - Compass works.  Proximity sensor, with the same situation as in 2.3.4 (Baltic-3)

8) Stable Operation - No lockups, no reboot of all time use is not observed.

Conclusion: The major changes I discovered.  Same speed, same performance as in the past 2.3.4. You decide yourself.
